Why the fallopian tube is most probably not the origin of serous carcinoma of the ovary. Part 1

The root of this theory was the finding of lesions in the fallopian tube epithelium in patients with BRCA mutations. Dr Crum suggested that this was probably the origin of most of the serous carcinomas of the ovary. He proposed a diagram showing how the cells from the fallopian tube get to the ovary. One problem with this theory was that most of the ovarian serous carcinomas are not on the ovarian surface. To solve this issue Dr Kurman suggested an interchange of oocytes and fallopian tube epithelial cells during ovulation. If this theory were correct we should see foci of endosalpingiosis inside corpora albicantia. I have not found this. The theory has been based in diagrams because if they use a real image it would be very difficult to explain how cells in a STIC, which do not invade the lamina propria of the tube, get to the peritoneum without involving the mesothelial surface, but invade the tissue under the mesothelium!!!
